Chelsea’s defender David Luiz is said to be on a brink of leaving the Blues before the summer transfer window close down, Sky Sports News reported.
Arsenal agreed a £8million deal with Chelsea to bring in the defender.
The 32-year-old Brazilian international has been rumoured to leave Stamford Bridge amid the tension that have risen after the squad had returned from Austria. On Wednesday, the centre-back did not train with the team.
Arsenal’s head coach, Unai Emery said that he is looking for a centre-back and believed that Luiz has been shortlisted. However, no formal bid for the Brazilian defender was offered.
Recently, the Blues gave Luiz a two year extension on his contract. Chelsea’s new manager, Frank Lampard said that he is willing to give all his players a fresh start with the club. Chelsea are hesitant to let go of the Brazilian mainly because of the ban of getting new players for two summers. However, Luiz felt that he is no longer part of Lampard’s plan for this new season.
Arsenal told Sky Sports News that the club have a lot of defensive players, and added that they need a centre-back that could really help them. Emery said that although the Gunners have an abundant supply in that department, it would have been different if Laurent Koscielny wants to leave the club. Moreover, the Arsenal boss said that they tried to sign important and expensive players in the defense department.
Koscielny refused to joined the Gunners during their pre-season tour to the US, prompting Emery to look for his replacement.
