The French media outlet RMC Sports said that Arsenal have matched the offer made by Tottenham Hotspurs for William Saliba.

The report said that the Gunners leveled the offer after the Spurs tried to lure the Saint Etienne’s defender.

The Gunners apparently had two bids for the 18-year-old centre-back which were turned down this summer before its fellow Premier League club tried to hijack Saliba with a £27 million (€30 million) plus add-ons offer last weekend.

The youngster had 16 Ligue 1 appearances last season. He made his senior football debut almost effortless. Saliba is considered as one of the hottest defender prospects today. He had so much interest from lots of European clubs and most notably from the two north London Clubs.

After the Spurs made their attempt to sign Saliba, Arsenal did not give up easily and even offered Saint Etienne more than £27 million all-in which the Emirates boss had laid down.

With the fresh development, Saint Etienne is now taking their time to see if they can make more cash from their defender and discover Saliba’s team preference.

Two weeks ago, Saint Etienne’s Roland Romeyer was adamant that their talisman will remain at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard next season.

“He will stay at the club this season. It is an imperative condition should we come to an agreement for his transfer. It is also William’s wish.” Romeyer said.
