With Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben departing the Allianz Arena after several successful years in Germany, Bayern Munich are in the market for a winger or two this summer.
The German Champions have made the signing of Manchester City star, Leroy Sane their priority but we think Die Roten could be able to look at other alternatives if their bid to sign the former Schalke winger ends up in failure.
There have been some wingers throughout the 2018/19 season that were linked with a move to the German giants but there seemed to be no follow-up to that.
Anyways, the summer transfer window is going to be opening soon and busy days, accompanied with player movements and paperwork are going to come. Bayern Munich are surely not going to just sit there and watch their biggest rivals signing star players and bolstering their squad. They also need to replenish their squad with fresh, perhaps younger stars, especially as raumdeuter Thomas Muller not getting any younger.
They do still have Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Alphonso Davies at their disposal, but at the moment, they are lacking depth in wider areas.
Well, without further ado, here are five signings that could fill in the void and flourish for the Bavarians in the coming years
1. Hakim Ziyech
The Moroccan international had a stellar campaign for the Dutch Champions, AFC Ajax this term, helping them win the League and Cup double. Ziyech was also a key figure in Ajax run to the champions league semifinals, scoring in back to back games against Real Madrid in the round of 16. He assisted the only goal in the 1st leg of the Champions League semifinal against Tottenham. He also scored the second goal in second leg of the semifinals where they defeated by Tottenham 3-2.
Hakim Ziyech was also called up by the Moroccan National team for the 2019 AFCON this summer after producing several convincing performances for Ajax this season.
The 26 year concluded the season scoring 21 goals in 47 appearances this season and he could flourish at Bayern in the Bundesliga. The German Champions should consider signing him if they fail to lure their main target, Leroy Sane over to Germany this summer.
2. Memphis Depay
Depay has resurrected his career in France with Olympique Lyonnais after having a forgettable spell with Manchester United. The flying Dutchman has not been as prolific as he was last season, but he still managed to have a 20 goals involvement this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists in the Ligue 1 this season.
Memphis is still only 25 years old, and still has lots of room for improvement. He recently made it clear that Lyon won’t be the last big Club he will turnout for, leaving the door open for a future transfer away from the club. Depay could be a perfect replacement for the departing Franck Ribery at the Allianz Arena and could create a legacy at Bayern like the Frenchman did, that is if Bayern decides to swoop for him.
3. Nicolas Pepe
The Ivory Coast international has become a prime target for lots of top European Clubs this summer after his exploits with Lille in the French Ligue 1 last term. The energetic winger scored 22 league goals and provided 11 assists in the French Ligue 1 last season as LOSC Lille ended up as runners up to Paris Saint Germain. It is not just his goals and assist that has made the French born Ivorian a hot property but also his work rate and his ability to help out the defense.
Still only 23, Nicholas Pepe has the propensity to be a success anywhere he ends up but a move to the German capital could be the one that suits him most.
4. Florian Thauvin
If Thauvin follows the path of Franck Ribery from Marseille to Bayern, then it could be a move that favors both the club and the player.
Florian Thauvin had an unsuccessful spell with Newcastle United in the Premier League during the 2015/2016 season, but it has been a different story since his return to Marseille. The Frenchman scored 16 league goals and provide 8 assists in the just ended league campaign. It is the third straight campaign where he has scored 15 or more league goals and could prove a perfect successor to his compatriot.
5. Callum Hudson-Odoi
The England international has a bright future ahead of him and he was a subject to several bids from Bayern during the January transfer window. The winger even reportedly handed in a transfer request to force a move to Bayern but Chelsea manager Sarri insisted that the player was staying at the club. Bayern could reignite their interest in the player this summer, but Chelsea could resist selling once again, especially if they lose Eden Hazard to Real Madrid this summer. If Bayern do get their man this time around, it could prove a good piece of business.
