Borussia Dortmund: One down, how many more to go?
Borussia Dortmund have just completed their first signing of the summer transfer window, but how many more are going to come?
The Bundesliga runners-up just made it official yesterday. The wide man, who can play anywhere on the left side have signed from Hoffenheim on a five-year contract. The deal was rumoured to be in the region of 25 million Euros.
Twitter: Borussia Dortmund is delighted to announce the signing of Nico Schulz from @achtzehn99_en on a five-year contract! https://t.co/UcQDsVXFL0 (@BlackYellow)
Schulz could play a vital part at Signal Iduna Park next season. His pace and energy could reinvigorate Dortmund’s deteriorating left side.
But the rumours didn’t stop there.
With Lukasz Piszczek not getting any younger and Marius Wolf struggling to perform at right-back – Dortmund are keen to bring in somebody to fill in the spot.
Yes, Dortmund still have Achraf Hakimi at the moment, but it is looking quite likely that the Real Madrid loanee will want to return to Santiago Bernabeu a year earlier than the original agreement. The Moroccan international has established himself as one of the best full-backs at the club and in Bundesliga last season.
To fix this situation, Dortmund look to seal the deal for Barcelona’s young right-back Mateu Morey.
The 2000-born full-back’s contract will be over in June and it is looking more and more likely that Dortmund will try to snap him up for free.
Highly active summer
There are also rumours elsewhere that Die Schwarzgelben are trying their luck for Julian Brandt, according to BILD.
Many rumours surround the highly-coveted Bayer Leverkusen man. Giant clubs from European top five leagues are scrambling to get his signature. But the man himself has stated that he’d prefer staying in Bundesliga next season, which could mean two things: either he’s staying with his club – who have qualified for next season’s Champions League or he’s moving to another Bundesliga club.
The rumours are that Dortmund can snap Brandt up for merely 25 million Euros due to his release clause – which is a huge steal, especially in today’s market.
The arrival of the creative attacking midfielder will bring a spark of life in Dortmund’s attack.
Not just Brandt, Dortmund are also closing in on a deal for Thorgan Hazard who’s reportedly agreed personal terms with Der BVB.
The transfer fee is rumoured to be around 40 million Euros and both clubs have reportedly found an agreement.
Hazard – whose brother Eden is also on the verge of a move – admired Borussia Dortmund, saying that one of the reasons he wanted to join the club was that they’re such a great team.
Dortmund are highly active this summer. They’re really looking to bolster their squad in order to really mount a proper challenge against Bayern Munich next season.
They’ve managed to sign one, but more are sure to come in the coming weeks.
We’ve seen the rumours, but will they come true? We shall see.
