Raheem Sterling wants significant pay raise to stay in City
Raheem Sterling has begun new contract talks with Manchester City. The Mirror confirms that Sterling wants £300k a week or he’s out.
The English international has had a strong season, winning the Premier League along with a stacked Man City team as well as delivering in England’s World Cup run which ended abruptly in the semis. Being such a key part of Pep Guardiola’s squad, Man City look to keep the winger on their books for at least 3 more seasons.
I would be lying if I wasn’t one to judge the young man, along with other football fans, after multiple inconsistent displays early in his career as a Citizen. I wonder what was the disbelief we had in the kid. Lately, he has gotten serious, a coming of age. Like Paul Pogba, he set aside all distractions and got serious about his performances. Becoming one of Pep’s go-to guys while earning the legendary coaches praise.
After relentless hazing from fans and the self-confidence boosting performances that Raheem has had, it is completely justifiable that he has earned the wages he demands. Man City is smart and I believe that the player and his agent will come to a common ground with the club, solidifying one of the fastest growing talents in England.
The hope for City is that after tying down Sterling for a new contract, he will blossom into the star that we all expect him to be, a new age icon for City alongside De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus. TNC hopes the spotlight does not get too hot.
One thing is for sure; Real Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool are more than happy to bolster their attack as they wait behind the posts to lure away the pacey wide man.
