Olivier Giroud confirms he will still play for Chelsea
France International and Chelsea’s striker, Olivier Giroud confirmed that he is not leaving Stamford Bridge.
According to reports, the FIFA World Cup-winning striker said that he has no intention of leaving Chelsea and go home to France in the near future.
Giroud captured the hearts of his countrymen despite failing to found the back of the net in his seven appearances throughout the World Cup. He also caught the attention of the French club, Marseille.
A month after winning the World Cup in Russia, speculations have floated surrounding Giroud’s future with several clubs in France as well as Spanish giants, Atletico Madrid trying to capitalise on the Frenchman’s standing and his disappointment at Chelsea. However, despite being a hero back home, Giroud said that he will ply his trade at the other side of the English channel.
Giroud showed a mixed form after making a move across London in January. He was largely used only during FA Cup before he found his scoring boots in April when he scored his first Premier League wearing blue. The 31-year-old former Arsenal striker slowly took Alvaro Morata’s place and became a potent threat up front in the process.
Now, Giroud announced that he is excited to play for Chelsea’s new boss, Maurizio Sarri.
The striker won’t play in Sunday’s Community Shield match against Manchester City at Wembley as he slowly goes back to training at Cobham following some post-World Cup festivities in Russia and France.
