Chelsea will make Jack Butland their number one target if Courtois opts to leave the club, according to Sky Sports. Chelsea had to turn their attention to Jack Butland after Everton refused to negotiate any deal for Jordan Pickford.
Butland is keen to establish himself as England’s number one choice goalkeeper and a move to top club like Chelsea will only increase his credentials. As we mentioned on Transfer News Central, Stoke City would not be blocking the move if Chelsea offer a decent amount for the goalkeeper. As things stand, Butland would be one of the easy picks for Chelsea to replace Real Madrid bound Courtois.
Butland, who was once a target for Manchester United, joined Stoke City from Birmingham City. It is interesting to know that Butland was able to establish himself as Stoke City’s number one goalkeeper after Chelsea signed the then Stoke’s first choice goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. After replacing Begovic, Butland has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in Premier League. Even though Stoke were relegated last season, Butland was performing well. His impressive form last season resulted in him being called as a back up for England in this year’s FIFA World Cup.
