Tottenham Fullback Serge Aurier emerges as Napoli target
Napoli are reportedly considering Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier as an alternative target if they fail to sign Matteo Darmian from Manchester United.
With Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho currently short on defensive options, the Old Trafford outfit has recently rejected a bid from the Partenopei for Darmian, who is intent to leave Manchester in search of first-team football elsewhere.
The Italian club are reportedly readying an improved bid for the 28-year-old fullback but if it again proves unsuccessful, they will turn their attention to Spurs’ Aurier, according to the Daily Mail. Carlo Ancelotti wants the Ivorian to provide competition for Elseid Hysaj at the right-back role.
However, if the former PSG fullback makes the switch to Carlo Ancelotti’s side in Italy, it would likely be a season-long loan deal as Aurier seems intent to fight for his place at the North London club.
Having arrived at Tottenham last summer, Aurier is keen to prove himself in England after a less than stellar first season in which he failed to dislodge Kieran Trippier in Spurs’ starting right-back position. Unlike the England fullback, the Ivory Coast international has enjoyed a full pre-season and looks certain to start for Mauricio Pocchettino’s side in their opening league fixture.
