According to L’Equipe and Marca, an agreement has been reached between full Djibril Sidibé and Atletico Madrid, with the transfer fee the only remaining stumbling block. Reports in Madrid suggest a confirmation of the signing is imminent, as Sidibe will join the already incoming Rodri at the Wanda Metropolitano for the 2018/19 season.
Diego Simeone is keen to add the 25-year-old to his defensive options, with the ever-reliant Juanfran hitting 33, Sidibe seems a natural successor to the Spaniard. The French right-back has also played further ahead for Monaco in the past and can operate on the left too, Simeone loves having players that can play in a number of different positions providing him with greater tactical fluidity.
The Monaco man enjoyed a breakout season in 2016/17 helping the club to an unlikely Ligue 1 triumph ahead of PSG. Despite many of his teammates leaving, Sidibe stuck around, having another wonderful season as Monaco finished 2nd.
Defensively solid, Sidibe fits the role of a Diego Simeone defender. But he is no slouch when going forward either, contributing 7 assists from a full-back role this term.
At just 25, with Champions League and international experience Sidibe could very well take his game to the next level under the stewardship of Simeone.
