Off the back of reports via The Telegraph’s Matt Law a few weeks ago stating Chelsea’s interest in hiring Mauricio Pochettino to replace Antonio Conte, the latest reports suggest this could well turn into more than just a rumour.
Sky Sports confirmed on Tuesday that the blues were considering making a move for the Argentine, who is of course currently contracted to Tottenham Hotspur. Following these links, there were immediate media responses from The Standard, who claimed that Spurs would not be entertaining any approaches for their head coach.
However, I understand that Chelsea have in fact been in contact with the representatives of Pochettino, in order to discuss the potential move, and that it had not been automatically ruled out. But they have also spoken to a number of other candidates in the last few weeks, with Conte widely expected to leave after Saturday’s FA Cup Final.
Further to this, Spanish journalist Diego Martinez has reported that Pochettino ‘will be moving to the blue side of London’.
Martinez has been first to break a number of transfer stories that had turned out to become reality in the past year, such as Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, and more recently Thomas Tuchel to Paris Saint-Germain.
Of course at the minute this is purely speculation, but there appears to be more substance than merely just whispers at this point. One to keep an eye on, even if this move seems impossible to the majority.
