It’s not quite Messi but Barcelona could be in talks with Southampton this summer in regards to a move for striker Paco Alcacer.
According to Sky Sports Mark Hughes has seen the La Liga forward as an answer to the Saints struggles in front of goal this season which has left him taking over a relegation battle at St. Mary’s.
Shane Long scored in a defeat to Arsenal at the weekend but Hughes knows next season he needs more firepower and the 24-year-old striker is on his radar after struggling with the Catalan club.
Southampton have scored 31 goals in 32 matches this season which has left them in the bottom three, however a late push could see them survive and chase Paco Alcacer, who cost Barcelona £26m two years ago.
It is unclear whether Southampton need to survive to attract the forward who will also have admirers in La Liga. It is also unclear how much of their investment Barcelona will want back.
