Commonly known as Emerson, the 23-year old has recently returned from a serious knee ligament injury and has only made one appearance this season. But he has also caught the eye of Liverpool, who have shown an interest in signing him this window.
Chelsea have become frustrated in their attempts to sign Alex Sandro, where it seems Juventus have priced them out of a move asking for £60 million for their Brazilian international.
Manager Antonio Conte wants to bring in competition for Marcos Alonso on the left side of the pitch, and Emerson is seen as a cheaper option to Sandro, and is also three years younger.
Reports suggest that the blues could land their man for just £20 million. But that of course comes with a huge risk, having been out for so long and losing his spot in the first team. Having said that though, Emerson did become a regular starter last season before his injury and is rated highly amongst the Roma faithful.
Chelsea have also looked at Porto left back Alex Telles, but his release clause is almost double the amount they could land Emerson for, who looks to be the more appealing option for the London club.
