Chelsea have emerged as surprise contenders to Manchester United in an attempt to land the signature of former Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, this according to reports over night via The Express and ESPN.

Manchester United have been firm favourites to lure the Wales international back to the Premier League, should this be an option. But it is Chelsea who will allegedly rival them on this move as manager Antonio Conte looks to add numbers to his thin squad.

Conte has raised concerns in recent interviews about the lack of players and quality in his squad and the Italian would certainly be keen to add a player of this calibre.

Real Madrid owner Florentino Perez is reportedly set to allow 28-year old Bale to leave the Club for £90 million, making way for the alleged arrival of Kylian Mbappe from Monaco this summer.

Bale has reportedly always preferred Manchester United should he return to England and their manager Jose Mourinho is keen on landing the superstar.

Although Bale has always maintained that he is happy in Spain during recent interviews, the opportunity to return to the UK at this stage of his career may just turn his head.
