Barcelona join Arsenal in race to sign Jean-Michael Seri
Still reeling days after losing star player Neymar in a world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona appear to be wasting no time in the rebuild process. Despite losing their famous left winger, Barcelona still see a need in adding quality to their aging central midfield, and have targeted this position as one they want to use part of the €220 million Neymar money to upgrade at.
According to reports from the Mirror and the Metro, Barcelona are heavily eyeing OGC Nice’s gifted midfielder Jean-Michael Seri as the man they want to join their midfield ranks this summer. This news will come as a blow to Arsenal, who are understood to have been leading the race for the player from the Ivory Coast until Barcelona have decided to make a swoop from under their noses.
In a summer of inflated transfer fees, the midfield play-maker from the Ivory Coast represents a bargain buy for any team capable of meeting the French club OGC Nice’s price. The 26 year-old Ivory Coast international has a release clause of €40 million, but OGC Nice have indicated earlier that they would be willing to part with a fee slightly less than the release clause figure.
Seri has already expressed a willingness to join Barcelona, and talks over a potential deal are already underway. Expect more news on the negotiations in the coming days, but seeing Seri in a red and blue jersey this season looks likelier as the days go by.
