Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain have officially announced the signing of Neymar from Barcelona on a five-year contract. The deal is worth a world transfer record with PSG activating his €222million release clause.
After weeks of speculation and constant legal struggles involving La Liga and UEFA, the deal has been finally confirmed in a deal that eclipses the previous world record (Paul Pogba from Juventus to Manchester United for €105m).

Neymar spoke upon his joining of the Parisian side claiming the club’s ambitions led him to joining the club
I am extremely happy to join Paris Saint-Germain, said Neymar Jr after signing his contract. Since I arrived in Europe, the club has always been one of the most competitive and most ambitious. And the biggest challenge, what most motivated me to join my new teammates is to help the club to conquer the titles that their fans want. Paris Saint-Germain’s ambition attracted me to the club, along with the passion and the energy this brings. I played 4 seasons in Europe and I feel ready to take the challenge. From today, I will do everything I can to help my new teamates, to open up new horizons for my club and to bring happiness to its millions of supporters around the world.
Paris Saint-Germain’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was also quoted on Neymar’s move, declaring that they’re now closer to the biggest prize in football (the Champions League)
“It is with immense joy and pride that we welcome Neymar Jr to Paris Saint-Germain, said Nasser Al-Khelaifi, President of Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar Jr is today one of the very best players in world football. His winning mentality, strength of character and sense of leadership have made him into a great player. He will bring a very positive energy to this club. In six years, we have built a very ambitious project that has already taken us to the highest level of national and European football. Today, with the arrival of Neymar Jr, I am convinced that we will come even closer, with the support of our faithful fans, to realizing our greatest dreams.”
Neymar joined Barcelona from Santos in 2013 and has scored 105 goals since joining in all competitions only coming behind Rivaldo (130) in the number of goals a Brazilian scored in the club. The player has also assisted 59 times since joining and was involved in 164 goals in his 186 appearances for the club (stats via Opta).
The Brazilian won the La Liga twice, held the Copa Del Ray three times, and one Supercopa de Espana, Club World Cup, and Champions League during his tenure at the Blaugarna.
PSG hope this move is worthwhile as they aim for European glory.
