Thomas Muller on his way out of Bavaria?
Thomas Muller endured a rough first campaign under new boss Carlos Ancelotti, which has led to speculation about his future with the team. In the 15/16 campaign, Muller scored 20 league goals while setting up a further 5 goals. Many thought that Muller was hitting his prime, then in last season’s campaign, Muller managed a meager 5 goals. One bright spot in Muller’s season last year was the 13 assists he provided from the number 10 role in Bayern’s 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 set-up last year. Another factor that has added some substance to these rumors is the signing of James Rodriguez who will most definitely slot into Muller’s spot on the team sheet.
Muller’s recent lapse of form has led to rumors of his exit. Recently Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has stated that the 27-year old is not for sale, per Espn. According to Sports Bild Italian champions, Juventus have been reported to have shown interest in the German International. This move may not happen, seeing that the Italian club must prioritize a defensive player, following the departure of Leonardo Bonucci to A.C Milan.
English clubs Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea have all been linked with Muller as well, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp having stated his desire to bring the German to Anfield. But a move to Arsenal and Chelsea could be off the books following the signing of Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette and Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata.
All three clubs have dropped a large amount of cash this summer, and it makes you think if it’s worth the risk of buying Muller who’s value is around the €50 million mark, according to Transfermarkt.
Muller as of March 15th reportedly wants to make the switch to England with Manchester United interested. But, the €75 million signing of Romelu Lukaku has put ice on those rumors.
As of now, it looks as if Muller is going to have to buckle-down and fight for his spot in Bayern, Germany.
