Could this Player help Brighton stay up?
As it stands, Brighton only have one out-and-out left-back in the form of Gaëtan Bong who signed a new one-year extension with The Seagulls. Clearly there is a great need for another player in this position.
Sky Sports has reported that Hughton is closing in on the 30-year-old Markus Suttner. Suttner has spent the last two seasons at Ingolstadt and aided them in achieving an 11th place finish come the end of the 2015/16 season in the German top-flight. Suttner also spent 7 seasons at Austria Wien, making over 250 appearances for the club. Suttner is not just an experienced club footballer, he also has 18 appearances for the Austrian national team.
Suttner scored 4 goals and assisted 5 in 33 appearances for Ingolstadt during the 2016/17 campaign. He is a confident passer of the ball, amassing an average of 33 passes-per-game last season, and his average of 3 interceptions-per-game during the same season is a testament to his positional awareness.
Despite these impressive stats, Brighton look sign the left-back for a cheap price due to Ingolstadt finishing 17th this past season meaning they will play in the second tier of German football next season. This makes it all the more likely that Suttner will join his former teammate, Pascal Gross, who joined Brighton earlier this season.
