Chelsea are in advanced negotiations with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois over a new 5-year contract at the club, set to make him the highest paid keeper in the world.

Belgian Journalist Kristof Terreur has confirmed that the Blues are close to agreeing the deal with their 25-year old Belgian International.

However, Spanish Journalist and Sky Sports worker Guillem Balague somewhat contradicts that and has suggested that Real Madrid are becoming increasingly keen on tempting Courtois back to Spain.

Rated as one of the best keepers in world football, Courtois has made no secret in admitting his desire to one day return to Spain in order to be closer to his children, who are still schooling in Madrid.

Balague also believes that Chelsea might be willing to sell Courtois, having already lined up Stoke City stopper Jack Butland as a replacement.

Chelsea reportedly do still have an offer on the table for Courtois, although based on this evidence it is unclear as to whether he will be signing said contract any time soon.

In recent interviews confirming his desire to return to Madrid, he did state that it would be at some point in the near future and not nescessarily anytime soon.

Chelsea are currently looking to tie up a new deal for his Belgian counterpart Eden Hazard as well, although his deal has longer left to run than Courtois, going through to 2020. They will still be eager to get both of them signed before the end of the season.
