Valencia’s Aymen Abdennour wanted by Zenit St. Petersburg
Valencia CF of Spain’s La Liga has been busy this summer transfer window, especially in regard to their defense. After bringing in Jeison Murillo and Gabriel Paulista to add to their central defender ranks, Valencia now are faced with a surplus of defenders. Usually, when players come in, others must go, and this looks to be the case with Valencia’s 28-year-old Tunisian central defender Aymen Abdennour.
Aymen Abdennour joined Valencia exactly two summers ago. After a modest two seasons spent in La Liga, Abdennour is one of the players likely to be on the move this summer. A number of clubs have lined up to sign the Tunisian defender to their team, but according to reports, Zenit St. Petersburg of the Russian Premier League have emerged as the favorites to win the race for Aymen Abdennour.
The reports reveal that Zenit are interested in bringing the central defender in on an initial loan deal with option to buy after the season’s end.
Zenit St. Petersburg are currently sitting in first place at the top of the Russian Premier League standings. In order to maintain their present standing and strengthen their assault towards a league championship this season, Zenit have marked their defense as a final position to upgrade at and believe Abdennour, who is at the front of their defensive shortlist options, is the final piece to the puzzle to help them in their campaign to lift the trophy.
