According to numerous reports, Celtic FC of the Scottish Premiership have reached an agreement to sign 20-year-old South African central defender Rivaldo Coetzee from Ajax Cape Town of the South African Premier League. After news of the transfer broke, Coetzee’s current club Ajax Cape Town have confirmed the agreement with the Scottish Champions for a transfer deal worth £800,000.
With the two clubs now in agreement, the only pieces standing in the way of the deal’s final completion is for Coetzee to put pen to paper and pass his medical in Scotland.
Coetzee has spent his entire professional playing career in his native South Africa. After spending his youth career with Kakamas Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town, Coetzee was promoted to the Ajax Cape Town senior team in 2014 and has not looked back since.
Moving to Europe and joining a prestigious club such as Celtic can be a daunting task for any player who has never tasted European football, but it is not one that scares the fearless South African central defender. Coetzee expressed his hunger to become a top player in the world of football and his realization that he must get out of his comfort zone and make a lifestyle change in order to do so. Coetzee has taken the interest from the Scottish Champions all in stride, and is poised to make the jump and reach his dream of one day playing in the UEFA Champions League.
