German midfielder Julian Draxler looks set to leave Paris Saint-Germain after just one season with the French club. The arrival of Neymar has led to PSG looking to make changes, with Draxler one likely casualty.

One club reportedly interested in the German International is Arsenal. Manager Arsène Wenger has been a long-time admirer of the 23-year-old, so will a deal finally happen?

Deemed surplus to requirements, Draxler could find a new home in North London, with Alexis Sanchez’s future up in the air. Gary Jacob of The Times noted that Arsenal had previously tried to sign the midfielder on “several occasions”, most recently last summer. Jacob also stated the French club will demand a £32 million fee for Draxler.

Arsenal have the funds to sign a player like Draxler, but do they really need the German? As a player who play’s the No.10 role, Draxler is also capable of playing out wide. When you evaluate Arsenal’s squad, they have options in that area, especially if Alexis Sanchez stays this season. So, signing a player like Draxler could be considered overkill at this point in time.

There is no doubting Draxler’s talent, but signing a player just because you can is never a good idea. Now, Arsenal aren’t the only team interested, with Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund also expressing an interest. These are two ideal landing spots for Draxler. With Ousmane Dembele and Ivan Perišić involved in constant transfer speculation, Draxler could either head back to Germany or sign with Italian club Inter Milan.

Whoever signs Draxler is bringing in one of the most talented midfielders in Europe. All indications point to a transfer saga, with the German likely to be deadline day target of multiple clubs.
