Marseille poised to sign the underutilized Stevan Jovetic
According to numerous reports, 27 year-old Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetic may be moving to southern France this summer to join Olympique Marseille. Marseille are said to be determined to sign a striker to help aid their French Ligue 1 title challenge this season to compete against Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco, and believe the “underutilized” Stevan Jovetic would be the perfect player addition to help them do just that.
Since joining Inter Milan during the 2015/16 season, Jovetic hasn’t received as much time with the starting 11 as he would have hoped, and has recently been deemed as a surplus to demands at the striker position with Inter Milan. This stance by Inter Milan forced a loan move for Jovetic to Spanish side Sevilla at the end of last season in order to gain more playing time.
Despite an encouraging couple of months in Sevilla, where he scored twice against arch rivals Real Madrid amongst others, it still wasn’t enough for Sevilla to meet Inter Milan’s asking price and strike a permanent deal.
Since Sevilla were unable to reach an agreement for the services of Jovetic with Inter Milan, Marseille are poised to rescue the central striker and offer regular playing time. The French club are ready to launch a €15 million bid for Jovetic, which they believe will be enough to convince Inter Milan to sell.
Marseille are confident that that the lure of first team playing time, as well as joining a club with championship ambitions is enough to convince Jovetic to join their project. Expect the transfer negotiations between the two clubs in the coming days to pick up as a Jovetic move to Marseille is in the works.
