Chilean defender Mauricio Isla to join Fenerbahce
Only last summer the 29 year old hard-working right back from Chile, Mauricio Isla, joined Italian Seria A club Cagliari. After spending only one season at the Italian club, Mauricio Isla looks to set to leave.
According to multiple reports in Italy and Turkey, the Chilean defender appears set to join Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce. According to the reports, Isla will leave Cagliari by mutual consent after it is reported that his former club Juventus will no longer be contributing to his salary. Since it is cheaper to terminate Isla’s contract and let him leave rather than stay for another, Cagliari are willing to let him move abroad to Turkey and join Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce have identified the right back position as a primary position in need of an upgrade and believe the Chilean defender, who featured for Chile at this summer’s Confederations Cup, perfectly fits the bill. According to the multiple reports, it is understood that Isla and Fenerbahce have already agreed to personal terms, already eliminating a major hurdle of the negotiation process.
Isla’s move to Turkey is set to wrap up within the coming days. But one striking part of the deal to send Mauricio Isla from Cagliari to Fenerbahce is the demand to schedule a friendly between the two clubs this summer as they prepare for the upcoming season. How Isla fares at his new club this season is yet to be seen, but the one certainty is that he looks to be featuring for a new team and experiencing a change of scenery.
