West Brom in talks with Southampton for Jay Rodriquez
West Brom have continued talks with Southampton for striker Jay Rodriguez in a deal worth £12 million, according to the Telegraph.
The English striker is allowed to leave the South Coast and West Brom manager, Tony Pulis, is hoping to sign the striker by the end of the month. West Brom need an extra striker after the sale of Berahino and the failure of Salomon Rondon scoring for 5 months between December and April when he finally netted at Burnley.
Southampton are allowing him to leave with the asking price at £12 million as the Saints look to clear out after dismissing Claude Puel the other week. With the South Coast club close to appointing a new manager, it seems Rodriguez will be the first casualty of the new appointment.
The Saints striker has struggled to get back in the team after suffering regular injuries. He was one of the hottest prospects in the 2013/14 season after scoring 15 goals but got a severe injury in the latter stages of 13/14 season which ruled him out for eleven months and the 2014 World Cup. Later on his career, he finally made a comeback after 16 months but has struggled to get minutes on the pitch and is looking for a move.
The former Burnley striker has attracted a lot of interest from Premier League clubs in the past year, as Tottenham were looking for his signature in January. Newcastle are also battling with West Brom for the 27-year-old but Rodriguez is prefers a move to West Brom.
