KAA Gent right-back Thomas Foket is on the verge of joining Italian club Atalanta despite seemingly strong interest from Napoli, according to Football-Italia.
The 22-year-old Belgian fullback are reportedly very close to making a move to Bergamo this summer to replace Andrea Conti who has set his mind on leaving Atalanta – probably to join AC Milan.
Gian Piero Gasperini has identified Thomas Foket as the ideal replacement for outgoing Andrea Conti.
Napoli had been in talks for Foket as well, but Atalanta were more determined to push forward negotiations. And now Napoli seem to turn their heads towards Mattia de Sciglio.
Thomas Foket has been an important player for Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side last season barely missing any game for the Belgian outfit. He have made a total of 51 appearances for KAA Gent last season, providing 4 assists as Gent managed to get to the last 16 of UEFA Europa League before being eliminated by league rival KRC Genk and managed to finish 7th in the league.
The Belgian can be pretty versatile. The 22-year-old can play in any role on the right flank, in defence, midfield or attack.
As for which club the Belgian will join this summer, it is yet to be seen. But Atalanta seem to be in pole position to sign this lad.
