Former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has been linked with a Ligue 1 return as Olympique de Marseille are looking to sign the free agent, according to Mirror.
The 34-year-old France international has been released by Manchester City and is now available on free transfer.
The right-back whom Arsene Wenger once described as the best right-back in Premier League, has been approached by Marseille.
Rudi Garcia’s side are currently in the process of rebuilding the team in the hope of challenging for a Ligue 1 title next season and signing veteran fullback like Sagna is thought to be the better choice rather than adding young inexperienced players to the team.
Talks have stalled though with Sagna’s wage demands currently deemed too high, but Marseille are hopeful of being able to lure the right-back to Ligue 1.
Sagna has spent ten years of his career in the Premier League, having originally joined Arsenal from French outfit AJ Auxerre back in 2007.
Marseille will feature in the Europa League next season, having finished fifth in the French top flight during last season campaign.
Crystal Palace have allegedly had an interest in signing Sagna too, while West Ham have opted instead to sign Sagna’s former team-mate, Pablo Zabaleta.
