Breel Embolo expected to join Schalke
19 year old Breel Embolo is expected to leave FC Basel to join Schalke 04 this summer despite being linked to Manchester United over recent weeks, Di Marzio reports.
BILD reports that the fee for Embolo is around €20 million, with the Bundesliga side paying in three installments. Embolo will be given a five year contract and is expected to replace German wonder kid Leroy Sane who has been linked with a move away from Schalke this summer, with Manchester City his proposed destination. His intent to move to Schalke now rules out any transfer to the Premier League, with past reports linking him to Tottenham and Manchester United. Mourinho was said to be very interested in Embolo, and was looking to add the Swiss winger to his young attacking options alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, but were beaten by Schalke’s ‘speedy negotiations’.
Embolo found the net 10 times for Basel last campaign, helping them to their 19th Swiss league title. His string of excellent performances across the season caught the eye of many teams across Europe, however it looks like Schalke will be the club to snap up the youngster.
Embolo is currently away on international duty as part of Switzerland’s Euro 2016 squad. He helped the Swiss national team qualify for the round of 16, finishing second in Group A just behind host nation France. Despite currently being in France the deal has been reported as `completed` by Di Marzio and will be officially announced by Schalke when Embolo returns from the tournament.
