City in pole position to land Barça star
Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been put on red alert as Barcelona postpone contract renewal talks with Sergio Busquets.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Busquets feels ‘uneasy’ with the current situation at the Nou Camp, as Barça delay contract renewal talks until the summer.
Manchester United have been long-term admirers of Busquets and were hoping to take advantage of his situation this summer, but it is their neighbours, Manchester City, who lead the chase for his signature.
The appointment of Pep Guardiola is likely to be the deal maker for the Sky Blues.
Just last month Busquets admitted that only two people could persuade him to leave Barcelona – his wife and Pep.
“I have always said there are just two people who could make me change my decision to stay at Barcelona,” he told ESPN.
“One of those two people is my wife. And she is happy here right now, so I don’t think there will be any issues on a personal level.
In footballing terms, that other person is Guardiola. I obviously owe him a lot and it would be an honour to play under him again.
Like the Red Devils, PSG will look to rival Guardiola for Busquets’ signature, having identified him as the ideal candidate to replace Thiago Motta, though it’s looking increasingly like a two-horse race between Barça and City.
