West Ham United have been rocked by demands from influential midfielder Dimitri Payet despite only signing a five-and-a-half year deal with the Hammers in the summer.
Payet has asked the Londoners for £125,000 a week, a rise on his current £68,000 a week wage at the moment without bonuses according to the Mirror.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has been keen for West Ham to show their appreciation of Payet with a new contract after settling into the Premier League superbly, describing Payet as the clubs “best player”
The most important move is to keep your best players and Dimitri Payet is our best player, I have no problem whatsoever saying that.
The Frenchman’s agent has seen the talks as a chance for Payet to cash in on good form knowing that Payet will be being watched and monitored closely by some elite European clubs who could offer the £125,000 that he is asking for.
With the new TV deal on the horizon and an Olympic Stadium which will add revenue to the West Ham coffers Payet will feel his chances of getting a pay rise are strong as the whole of the Premier League will be able to give players more lucrative contracts compared to those in the Bundesliga and La Liga.
The Irons are currently sixth in the Premier League, just one win away from leapfrogging Manchester United into fifth spot.
