Liverpool target Alex Teixeira has sealed a big-money move to Chinese club Jiangsu Suning, dealing a major blow to the Reds’ hopes of acquiring the Brazilians’ signature.
The 26-year-old, who is as versatile a player as one can get has emerged as a pivotal part of Mircea Lucescu’s men over the past one or two seasons. This season though, the midfielder has scored nine times in all competitions, three alone in the Champions League.
As per reports, Jiangsu have shelled out as much as €50 million, which is equivalent to £38 million, for the pacy attacking midfield player and have broken the Asian transfer record for the third time in a fortnight. It was Guangzhou who broke the record two days ago with the acquisition of Jackson Martinez, but in the wake of a bumper TV deal, it has been shattered again.
A statement on the official Shakhtar Donetsk website read : “Shakhtar Donetsk and Jiangsu Suning FC have agreed on all the necessary formalities for the transfer of Alex Teixeira to the Chinese club. Transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder is €50m. Shakhtar thank Alex for the time spent in the team and wish him success at his new club.”
Jiangsu are being coached by former Chelsea defender Dan Petrescu and it’s the second time they’ve smashed the transfer record. The club have already snapped up Chelsea star Ramires for a fee in the region of € 21.5 million.
