Jesse Lingard set for a new bumper contract
Jesse Lingard is set to receive a new bumper contract from Manchester United after impressive performances this season, according to The Mirror.
The 22-year-old and his representatives look set to meet with United this week to open negotiations regarding a new deal.
Despite the academy graduate agreeing on a deal only last February, it looks like a new contract could double the £25,000-a-week he already earns. It seems the £50,000-a-week deal would come into effect after Christmas with bonuses dependant upon first team appearances.
His performances have impressed not only Louis van Gaal, but his No.2 Ryan Giggs and England manager Roy Hodgson.
Just last week, Lingard was called up to the England squad ahead of England’s 2-0 win over France. It was the first time Lingard was involved with the national first team, but he has played on 11 occasions for the U21’s.
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has also praised Jesse Lingard, describing his as “unbelievable” after their 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League earlier this month.
He has enjoyed a good start to the season, with the majority of the Red Devils fans preferring him in the XI to £31million signing Memphis Depay who joined during the summer.
