Wanyama and Lamela in surprise swap deal
Tottenham Hotspur are willing to offer Southampton £18 million for Victor Wanyama, and send Erik Lamela to St. Mary’s on loan in an attempt to push the deal through before Tuesday’s deadline, reports Simon Jones for the Daily Mail.
Wanyama, 24, has asked to leave Southampton, and earlier this month handed in a transfer request which was rejected.
He was left out of Sunday’s 3-0 victory against Norwich City due to the speculation surrounding his future, and hasn’t travelled to join up with the Kenyan national team this morning.
Having already lost Morgan Schneiderlin this summer, Saints manager Ronald Koeman doesn’t want to see any more of his key players leave the club, and is determined to keep hold of Wanyama.
With Sadio Mane also linked with a move away from the club, Spurs flop Lamela could be a direct replacement. The Argentine has had an extremely disappointing two years in North London following his £25 million move from Roma in 2013, scoring just two league goals in two seasons.
The 23-year-old has failed to live up to his expectation and potential in the Premier League, and has been linked with Inter Milan and Marseille in recent weeks, however he could be set to stay in the Premier League and continue his
career on the South Coast.
