Fer and M’vila close to Sunderland Switch
Sunderland are set to bolster their midfield with two big signings this week according to reports by Louise Taylor of The Guardian. Yann M’Vila and Leroy Fer are set to join the Black Cats from Rubin Kazan and QPR respectively.
Sunderland are thought to have hijacked a deal between Rubin Kazan and Dynamo Moscow for M’Vila, with the player set for a medical up Wearside on Monday. The deal for the French International is thought to be a permanent transfer and the fee will be considerably lower than the £10 million Rubin paid just two years ago, with the club and the player eager to part ways. M’Vila primarily is a defensive midfielder and alongside Lee Cattermole would provide great protection for a defence that has looked shaky in recent years.
Meanwhile, Dutch playmaker Leroy Fer is understood to have agreed a season-long loan deal with Sunderland from QPR. The former Norwich star scored six goals and created 48 chances in 29 Premier League appearances for QPR during the 2014-15 season and would add creativity and goals to the Sunderland midfield. Despite suffering successive relegation’s from the Premier League with first Norwich and then QPR, the 25-year-old Holland international is highly rated by Dick Advocaat. The Sunderland manager is eager to have Fer in the travelling squad to Leicester next week, with deals for the midfield pair finalised by Tuesday.
Sunderland will turn their attention to their strike force in the transfer market to replace Crystal Palace bound Connor Wickham. With a sizeable chunk of their transfer budget remaining, names such as Moussa Sow, Jordan Rhodes and Alexandre Pato have been linked with the Black Cats.
