Manchester City Enter Berahino Race
Manchester City have joined the race to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino.
Neil Moxley in the Sunday People reports that City boss Manuel Pellegrini is ready to make a move for the England Under-21 international ahead of next weekend’s Premier League kick-off.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are both desperate to sign a striker and have had rumoured interest in Berahino all summer, who scored 14 league goals last season.
However a move to The Sky Blues looks much more appealing due to the offer of guaranteed UEFA Champions League football, and a significant wage rise.
The Baggies are holding out for around £25m for the striker, and signed Rickie Lambert earlier this week, potentially as a replacement for the departing Berahino.
City are looking to continue their spending and continue their recruitment of English players, having spent nearly £70m already this summer on Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and Patrick Roberts.
Stevan Jovetic has signed for Serie A side Inter Milan on an initial 18-month loan deal, and Edin Dzeko could follow him to Italy after agreeing personal terms with Roma.
As strikers continue to leave the Etihad Stadium, Sergio Aguero and Wilfried Bony are the only two recognised forwards at the club, therefore the arrival of Berahino would be a welcome sight.
Pellegrini continues to impose himself in the transfer market, and the Mirror previously reported that City hope to beat Chelsea to the signing of Everton defender John Stones.
