Permanent Move to Sunderland for Coates
Andy Hunter of the Guardian is reporting that Sebastian Coates is to make his move to Sunderland permanent. After establishing himself in the first team at the end of last season, the Uruguayan is reportedly looking to move to the Stadium of Light permanently. Liverpool are more than open to selling him, and with Dick Advocaat keen on him, it looks like this deal could happen.
The Uruguayan international was highly rated before making his move to Liverpool. He came to the Reds for a fee of around 7m, but he never really fit in at Anfield. After making only 12 league appearances in his first two seasons, he missed all of 2013-2014 with a torn ACL. This season he was shipped out on loan to the Black Cats. He was originally signed by fellow Uruguayan Gus Poyet and he found playing time tough to come by. After struggling for much of the season, Poyet was sacked and replaced by Dick Advocaat. The Dutchman was impressed by Coates and made him a fixture in their back four. With a run of games, the Uruguayan impressed enough that a host of teams are interested in signing him.
It is thought that he would like a move back to the North East after the announcement that Dick Advocaat would stay past the end of the season. With the Dutchman’s future up in the air Coates may have been more willing to look at other clubs. But with him staying at the helm of Sunderland, it looks like Coates wants to come back as well.
