Gonzalo Higuain is a striker in demand this summer with top clubs from across Europe enquiring about the Argentine’s services. However, Napoli are intent on keeping their star man and have indicated that Higuain will not leave for less than his eye watering £67 million release clause.

With the likes of Arsenal, AC Milan, Manchester City and Liverpool being credited with an interest in the 27 year old it will be interesting to see if any club will follow up their enquiries. Rohan Banerjee of The Mail Online reports that Napoli will not budge from their asking price for Higuain. Napoli’s director of communications Nicolas Lombardo has told Radio Kiss Kiss in Italy that “the club stresses that the Argentine has an existing contract clause of €94,736,000 (£67m). No bids below that figure will be accepted, those who want the player will have to match that valuation”.

Higuain has had a very successful time in Serie A since his €40 million move from Real Madrid in 2013, scoring 53 goals in 102 appearances in all competitions. The striker also holds an impressive international record with 24 goals in 50 appearances. Despite an impressive goal scoring record throughout his career, most clubs will be reluctant and unable to match Napoli’s valuation.

Higuain is likely to find himself to expensive a signing even for most Premier League teams. Arsenal have the resources to spend money but are usually a lot wiser and thoughtful with their finances, whereas Liverpool will need to sell Raheem Sterling before even entertaining the idea of a bid for Higuain. Based on finances Manchester City on paper appear to be the most realistic club to match the valuation of Higuain with Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak promising “high-quality” signings this summer in an interview with Sky Sports News earlier this month.
